A little about me.

Engineering is my day job. Curiosity tends to fill the rest.

I’m Uzair Syed Ahmed, a Principal Mechanical Engineer at Metalforms Heat Transfer in Texas. Most of my professional work is around heat-transfer equipment, pressure systems, materials, engineering design, and the practical questions that connect calculations to manufacturing.

Work

Principal Mechanical Engineer — Metalforms Heat Transfer
My work includes the design and analysis of hairpin, shell-and-tube, and twisted-tube heat exchangers, with regular use of ASME Section VIII Divisions 1 and 2, TEMA, API requirements, materials engineering, finite element analysis, and engineering automation.

Along the way, software became another engineering tool. I build internal tools and automate workflows using Svelte, JavaScript and TypeScript, Google Apps Script, and Python.

Education

Doctor of Engineering candidate — Texas A&M University
Focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and AI-enabled engineering knowledge systems.

Master of Engineering, Mechanical Engineering — University of Maryland, College Park

Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering — GIKI

Professional licensure

  • Professional Engineer (PE) — Texas
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) — Ontario
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) — Alberta

Something I’m working on

I started MatJSON to explore a common, machine-readable way to represent material specifications and requirements. It brings together two things I spend a lot of time thinking about: engineering knowledge and useful software.

Outside of work

I’m a father of two boys, husband to an incredible wife, and a volunteer involved in many community social initiatives. Scouting is part of family life, with my boys involved in Scouts and Cub Scouts.

A few reminders

I try to keep the ideas of giving back, helping others, and ihsan close to the work. These are reminders to myself, not a list of things I have figured out.

“Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people – and Allah loves the doers of good.”
Qur'an 3:134Sahih International. “Doers of good” renders al-muhsinin, the people of ihsan.
“And do good as Allah has done good to you.”
Qur'an 28:77Sahih International; excerpt.
“Verily Allah has enjoined goodness to everything”
Sahih Muslim 1955aEnglish translation on Sunnah.com; opening excerpt.
“Allah will aid His slave so long as he aids his brother.”
Forty Hadith of an-Nawawi, 36 (Muslim)English translation on Sunnah.com; excerpt.

About this site

A small personal blog, built with SvelteKit and Markdown, configured for static hosting on Cloudflare Pages. The aim is to keep writing easy and the website out of the way.

Tania Rascia’s site was a reference for its writing-first approach. This site uses its own code and content.

There are no ads, trackers, external fonts, or newsletter popups. Your theme preference stays in your browser. Views here are personal, not those of my employer; engineering posts are not a substitute for a project-specific assessment.
